Book Review: Swayamwar by Nilabh Verma

Introduction: ISBN:  9789350831526 Genre: Mythological Fiction Publisher:    Diamond Books No. of pages: 184 Price: Rs. 125/- (I received this book from the author requesting for a review) Couple of months back I had the opportunity to review 2 epic love stories by Ashok K Banker from Blog Adda. At that time I noticed that the author has written one on Bhishma and Amba which unfortunately I did not get to read. Given the limited knowledge that I had of Bhisma this love story was something I was very curious about.  I feel god wanted me to experience this love story in its fullest form when He made me read Swayamvar by Nilabh Verma. I always believed treachery, heartbreak, cheating, hurt etc happened in today’s times as people became more and more selfish. I thought the love stories of the good old days were the best as love at that time was innocent and pure.  But I was wrong. This book proved to me that tragedy and love go hand in hand in...

Love finds a way

Image
Source: Google Images Loving is perhaps the first lesson we learn in life. The moment we are born the first few things we begin to hear are Mamma loves you, Papa loves you…. We are taught to say I love you Papa…I love you Mamma. Throughout our growing up years the first lesson learnt changes its forms as we come across various definitions of love only to settle down with one which is uniquely ours.   Yet we keep looking for love.  We do find it also, perhaps in various forms. Sometimes we recognise it and sometimes we don't. Eventually we get hurt and learn how to hate love. We close all the doors tightly to ensure it does not hurt again so that we can avoid that hurt. But love being what it is, it manages to reach out to us even from the tiniest cracks possible. Hugging us tightly, melting away our fears and warming our hearts once again making us bask in the magic of love.

Mid-way Reminiscences

Image
Source: Google Images Life is a journey. You begin it with one step at a time. Throughout the journey you meet some people, you lose some. They enter your life and leave behind some unforgettable footprints. Every time we cross a milestone in this journey we pause and look back to find beautiful reminiscences of them. It does tug you for a moment before moving ahead but then this is what gives you the strength to carry on further. A need to find new lessons, missing the old things, worrying what it will be like, a hope to meet some more people and loving all that comes your way with smile. Sharing some of my reminiscences with you:

Of Stories & Tellers

Image
Source: Google Images We all are story tellers, aren’t we? What else would you call the way we cook up stories when we want to lie, when we manage to create imaginary characters just to please our children, when we write essays and autobiographies in schools or better still manage to grab the attention at get-togethers as we go about narrating simple day-to-day incidents with a panache that has everybody hooked! My first experience with a real story was the day I had asked my mom the eternal question – Mamma, where did I come from? And my mom very lovingly placed me on her lap to narrate a story which began with the usual Once upon a time. I clearly remember I had asked my mom to narrate this one so many times to me that I had lost count. I loved the part where she said “ And we got you home! ” I just loved the joy that one sentence carried.  Perhaps that was the moment I fell in love with stories and with happy endings too!
